The Awesome Open Source YouTube channel is designed for the purpose of providing detailed video instructions and introductions to freely available, open source, and self-hostable software and services.  

Brian McGonagill has been using computers since the mid 1980's.  His love of open source software grew from repeated painful experiences with closed source options such as the Windows OS.  He often found software that was quite good, paid for it, and then the development of that software disappeared without a trace.  Updates weren't made as Operating Systems and hardware advanced, and the software he paid for eventually just died off.

Open Source has a distinct advantage, that anyone can pick up where another developer left off.  It doesn't always happen, but at least you're going in with some knowledge and options.
